All scratching in the attic is not the same. Is it happening in the day, evening, or late at night? Is there scratching in the walls too? What happens when you knock on the well or ceiling (knock test)? Is it scratching or more of a thumping or really loud? Are there “bird chirps” that go along with the scratching?

The answers to all of these questions can help you determine what type of animal is in the attic or walls that needs to be removed. Light scratching at night that is in the attic only and stops when the knock test is applied, is probably rats or bats. If there is scratching in the walls, it’s almost always rats or mice.
